The SABERIRACDA program invites applications on a rolling basis and will be considered as received.

Applicants must have less than 2 years of postdoctoral research training at the time of appointment.

Applicants must be US citizens or non-citizen nationals, or must have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence.

Candidates for the K12 SABER•IRACDA Scholar program must have a professional doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DDS, DVM, or equivalent)

Applicant’s Cover Letter/Narrative

Summarize your career goals, career development plan, reasons for applying to the K12 program, and proposed research activities.

Describe your commitment to an independent research and teaching career in academia and how/why your participation in the SABERIRACDA program is important to your future career

List at least three individuals who will provide a letter of reference. The full name, title, and email address of each individual should be included.

Arrange for letters of reference to be submitted electronically to iracda@uthscsa.edu. One of these letters should be from the dissertation advisor or chief of service; if this is not feasible, please include a brief explanation on the page of the application that lists reference letter writers.

Additional Application Requirements if Research Mentor has Already Been Selected:

Research Mentor’s Letter

Willingness to serve as the applicant’s K12 SABERIRACDA research mentor

Agreement to the terms of the applicant’s participation in the K12 SABERIRACDA program, i.e., 25% trainee effort devoted to teacher training

Identification of resources (grant support, facilities, etc) available to facilitate the applicant’s completion of a high-quality research project

Research Mentor’s previous experience as a research mentor. Details should be provided on PHS Forms-D Tables 5A, 5B, 8A (Part I), and 8C (Part I). These tables should include information on all current/prior pre- and postdoctoral trainees. Note that the titles on these NIH tables should be replaced with the appropriate title:  Pre- (or Post-) doctoral Trainees of the Faculty.
