FUNDAMENTALS OF TEACHING

The SABERIRACDA didactic teaching curriculum is comprised of a formal pedagogic course, UTeach, as well as an advanced workshop, Successful Starts.  At the end of training, Scholars are able to: (i) develop a teaching philosophy; (ii) write learning goals for an undergraduate science course; (iii) develop activities that align with the goals of the course; (iv) develop course outcomes/assessment tools.  Scholars will also participate in Professional Preparation, a workshop for the job application process; issues addressed include: how to write and appropriately customize a CV or resume, how to negotiate a start-up package, how to prepare for a job interview and seminar.

The Professional Preparation Workshop is designed to provide training for postdocs and advanced graduate students on how to apply for academic positions at primarily undergraduate institutions

  • Preparing your CV
  • Stating your teaching philosophy
  • Presenting your teaching / mentoring experience
  • Writing a cover letter, conducting mock interviews
